BUCYRUS — The Crawford County Now Athletes of the Week presented by River’s Edge Embroidery, Screen Printing and Signs have been selected by the fans for Dec. 24-29, 2018.
This week’s award recognizes a Bucyrus king of the mat and a Buckeye Central queen of the hardwood.
The boy athlete of the week is Joey Patterson, a member of the Bucyrus High School wrestling team.
According to his nomination, Patterson pinned all four of his opponents in the Lucas Invitational on Dec. 27 to claim the individual title for the 195-pound weight class.
Patterson’s victory led the way as the Redmen took the team first-place prize at the tournament.
The girl athlete of the week honor goes to Claudia Pifher, a member of the Buckeye Central High School girls’ basketball team.
During a non-conference game Dec. 28 in the Mansfield Christian Showcase, Pifher led the Buckettes in scoring, with 22; rebounding, with nine; and 3-point baskets, with two.
Pifher’s offensive output led Buckeye Central to a 78-40 win versus Evergreen.
The win extended the Buckettes’ win streak as they look to repeat with an N10 title.
