GALION — A structure fire is under investigation after responders found suspicious origins of the blaze.

According to Galion Fire Department Chief Phil Jackson, emergency crews responded to a structure fire at 746 Boyd Blvd. on Monday at 1:09 p.m.

Jackson said no one was located at the residence when crews arrived four minutes after the call was made.

After controlling the fire, Jackson said multiple locations were discovered that appeared to be where a fire began, leading to investigators having suspicions about how the fire began.

He said the fire appeared to not have begun naturally.

The residence sustained heavy smoke damage, but not much fire damage due to the response time of the department.

“The house was not a total loss,” Jackson said.

A family member of the homeowner was on the scene due to the homeowner being out of state.

He said there are people of interest, including juveniles, but no one has been brought in for questioning.

Galion Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
