The Bucyrus High School Science Club will be hosting a Science Fair on Wednesday, February 19 in the Middle School gym. Students in grades six through twelve will compete. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with judging commencing at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with public viewing of the projects from 5-6 p.m.
The purpose is to give students a project-based learning experience, while allowing them to explore a topic in science in which they are interested. Topics vary and include subjects such as optics, bacterial growth, stereotypes, building structures and composting, just to name a few.
Community members and staff members will be serving as the evening’s judges and will work in teams of two to review and evaluate each project. Projects that receive a “superior” rating will be given the opportunity to attend the District Science Fair at The Ohio State University Marion Branch, where students will be competing for scholarships.
“I hope that this will be a positive experience for all students participating with projects and drives a desire to continue with project based learning in years to come,” said Science Club Advisor Amanda Kent. “We have had students in the past do very well at districts and move on to the state level. We hope our students this year will continue that tradition. We are very excited to have a total of 150 student projects.”
