A text alert was sent to many Crawford County residents informing citizens of local law enforcement’s search for fugitive Shawn Christy.
The alert gave Christy’s physical description of being a 5’ 10” white male, weighing 150 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.
The message informed the public to not approach Christy and to call 911 if he is seen.
Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent confirmed his office did not send out the alert.
A representative of the Richland County Sheriff’s Office referred the CCN staff to the Mansfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which referred CCN to the patrol’s media relations department.
A representative of the patrol said no new information is available and he was unsure who sent the alert.
He added any new information will be made public through news releases to the media.
Christy was last seen in Richland County fleeing the scene of a one-vehicle crash.
