GALION — A one-vehicle crash caused multiple residences to be evacuated on Ohio 19, between Evans Avenue and Biddle Road on Tuesday morning.
According to Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson, a vehicle went off the road and struck a gas line attached to a high-pressure line. Jackson said the vehicle came to rest on top of the line, creating a more difficult situation for the emergency crews to pinch off the line in a reasonable amount of time.

Jackson added that more than 10 residences in the proximity of the crash were evacuated due to safety concerns.
According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the driver has not publicly been identified due to the crash being under investigation. The cause of the crash has not been identified.

Jackson said the driver refused treatment and to be transported to a hospital. He said the driver suffered minor injuries.
City of Galion Communications Director Matt Echelberry said Ohio 19 is open, but motorists are asked to use extreme caution as crews still are working in the area.
Columbia Gas responded to the scene to shut off the gas leak.
