BUCYRUS — With the recent news that Wynford High School Principal Jeff Holbrook is leaving the district to take a position as the superintendent of Hopewell-Loudon Schools, the board of education wasted no time in hiring a new high school principal and subsequently naming a new junior high principal.
Chris Solis, who has been in the position of junior high principal, is moving into the high school position and sixth grade math teacher, Julie Miller, will be taking over the position of junior high principal.
“I bleed blue and gray,” said Miller, who has been a teacher for 26 years and has taught at Wynford for the past 17 years. She is also a graduate of Wynford High School.
Miller said she is excited to begin her new position after receiving her master’s degree in 2016.
Solis said he is honored that the district has faith and trust in him to hire him as the principal of the high school.
“I am honored and privileged to have the confidence of the board as well as the superintendent to serve in a position in which I will be working with outstanding staff members as well as students in which all of us will be great ambassadors for the district,” Solis said.
He said that he and the staff will continue to strive for excellence by continuing to have a strong collaborative inclusive environment in which all students can and will learn.
The board passed several routine agenda items before Superintendent Fred Fox gave an update on the construction project of the new high school and junior high building.
“We are still in the design phase and will be meeting with the architect tomorrow to choose the size of gymnasium we want,” said Fox.
Fox said an orange construction fence will eventually go up around the perimeter of the current building and area in which the new addition will be constructed, causing the need to relocate the baseball field. Fox and others are working on a plan for this and welcome suggestions and ideas from the public.
