BUCYRUS — During a special Bucyrus City Council meeting that ocurred one hour early due to the annual fireworks display Tuesday evening, Don Scheerer addressed council members about the upcoming sale of Forget-Me-Not flowers.

Scheerer said the Disabled American Veterans will be selling the flowers July 13-15 throughout the city to raise money for disabled veterans.

Scheerer is the secretary/treasurer of the local branch of DAV and holds the same position for the Crawford County Veterans Hall of Fame.

He said the CCVHOF is in the process of raising money to create a monument for local veterans of the Civil War and Spanish-American War as an addition to the monument already in place on the eastside of the Crawford County Courthouse.

“We will need $24,900 for the new addition that will feature local veterans from older wars,” Scheerer said.

Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent sent a letter to council commending Lt. Eric McNutt of the Bucyrus Fire Department for the excellent job he did in response to a dump truck crash on U.S. 30 in Liberty Township on June 14 in which the truck crashed into the Sandusky River.

“You were making decisions before any of us arrived on the scene. You wore many hats during this incident, from incident commander, firefighter, EMT to hazardous material control,” the letter read in part.

A letter also was read by council clerk Todd Hill from the staff of Crawford County Help Me Grow thanking city officials for a recent donation of passes for local children to use the Aumiller Park Pool.

No legislation was considered at the meeting, but several items were referred to the various committees of the council.

A regular Joint Regular Committee meeting is Thursday, July 5, at 6 p.m. in council chambers at Bucyrus City Hall.

Topics of discussion will include, but are not limited to:
