The good news for Bucyrus firefighters who answered a call in frigid temperatures Tuesday morning was there was no fire. The bad news for the resident of the Reid Street home is that she needs a new furnace.
Capt. Gordon Grove of the Bucyrus Fire Department said his department was called at 6:29 a.m. because June Noblit believed her home was on fire when she was awakened by the smoke alarm and found the house full of smoke. That was the scene greeting the firefighters who arrived at 944 Reid St.
Grove said after thoroughly examining the house including the attic and basement, firefighters were able to determine the furnace motor had seized and presumably burned itself up. Grove described the smoke damage as moderate to light throughout the two story home including the basement.
Grove said he had never seen so much smoke when there wasn’t a fire.
