BUCYRUS — A Galion woman recently made a decision between two prizes, both of which would make most people’s days.
Gail Wilson was named the winner of a drawing sponsored by Ohio Specialty Services Motor Ranch of Bucyrus and Galion, which allowed the winner to choose between a nice used car or $3,000.
Wilson signed up for her chance to win at the JOBortunity event at Grace Point Church in Galion on April 26, which was presented by the North Central Ohio Media Group.
Transportation is a large concern for employers when hiring and retaining employees, which led Ohio Specialty Services President J.R. Jenney choosing the prizes he did.
“We spoke to different manufacturers and many of them said the biggest issue in hiring employees or keeping them, is transportation, and we work in the transportation industry so it worked out perfectly,” Jenney said. “We have a lot of nice, one-owner, inexpensive, clean and reliable vehicles, so it worked out great.”
Jenney said he offered the alternate prize knowing the winner may already have a vehicle. As was the case for Wilson. Wilson chose the cash prize, instead of the car, because she already has a usable vehicle.
“I have a vehicle, so I didn’t have that issue, but it is very much appreciated,” Wilson said. “It was very much a surprise. I missed the phone call, so he left it as a message and I was just like, ‘Yay!’”
Wilson said she and her daughter both received job leads at JOBortunity, which gave her a positive experience even before being named the winner.
“That was a really nice job fair, all around,” Wilson said. “Everybody was really nice and polite, and I was the one lucky enough to win.
“It was just the icing on the cake.”
