BUCYRUS — The fifth annual Jim Grandy Bucyrus Boys Tennis Invitational is scheduled for this Saturday.

A field of eight teams will take part this year, including defending champion Mansfield St. Peter’s, Galion, Tiffin Calvert, Marion Harding, Upper Sandusky, Willard, River Valley and host Bucyrus. Some of the area’s top players will be participating.

The event will be held at the Bucyrus Community Tennis Courts located on the campus of Bucyrus High School, just north of Bucyrus Middle School. Start time is 10 a.m., with free admission and concessions will be available.

Medals are presented to the top three finishers in each of the singles and doubles brackets. There will be a team trophy awarded for the school with the most total points scored as compiled from the individual brackets.

Parking will be on Redmen Way, which runs along the east side of the complex, or in the middle school parking lot south of the complex.

The event was organized to honor Jim Grandy, long-time teacher at Bucyrus High School, who revived the Redmen tennis program in the late 1960s.

Questions can be directed to John Supon, varsity tennis coach at Bucyrus, at 419-989-9776 or Bucyrus athletic director Rick Rawson at 419-562-7721.
