NEWS RELEASE:
Nearly 30 Bucyrus High School student-athletes competed on the Bucyrus Powerlifting team that finished no worse than second in any competition during the 2017-2018 season.
The powerlifting team’s season began the second week of November and concluded at the end of February. The student-athletes, 19 of whom earned a letter, broke many personal records throughout the long winter season.
“We have always had winter lifting but have really gained steam in powerlifting the past three years,” explained Head Football Coach Aaron Eckert, who also serves as the powerlifting coach. “I believe we had a letter in the past for it but just brought it back three years ago.”
The Redmen won their home invitational Jan. 27, placed second at the Kenton Powerlifting Meet Feb. 1 and brought home the top team honors at the South Central competition Feb. 24.
“We had numerous student-athletes who placed first in the different meets and others who continued exceeding their personal bests,” said Eckert. “We have one of the more respected teams in the area and each year we seem to get a little better and hopefully next year we will see our participation go up even more!”
