The Bucyrus Fire Department has completed an investigation of a fire that destroyed three vehicles and damaged a fourth at Mathews Chevrolet-Buick in Bucyrus.
According to fire investigator Eric McNutt, the cause is undetermined.
“The dealership has insurance and they have the option of a private investigator to review the evidence to determine the cause,” McNutt said.
McNutt said three trucks were a total loss and a fourth received some light damage to the driver’s side area with the total loss estimated at $70,000.
According to Bucyrus Fire Department Capt. Ryan Sparks, firefighters were called to the scene at 1885 Marion Road at 4:55 a.m. Sunday and the three vehicles were engulfed in flames.
Sparks said water, as well as foam, was used to battle the blaze and that there were no injuries to firefighters.
Ryan Weir and Gary Matthews, employees at the dealership, were called to the scene by police.
“These were great used vehicles. Such a waste,” said Weir as he examined the extensive damage, noting that one of the trucks destroyed had less than 25,000 miles on it.
Weir said he finds it odd that three vehicles were destroyed.
McNutt said anytime a person has information regarding a fire in the city, they should contact the Bucyrus Fire Department at 419-562-1234.
