A fire that destroyed three vehicles and damaged a fourth one at Mathews Chevrolet-Buick in Bucyrus is under investigation.

According to Captain Ryan Sparks of the Bucyrus Fire Department, firefighters were called to the scene at 1885 Marion Road at 4:55 a.m. Sunday morning and three vehicles were engulfed in flames.

Sparks said water, as well as foam, was used to battle the blaze and that there were no injuries to firefighters.

Sparks said a hose was hooked up on the east side of Marion Road and Bucyrus Police officers were at the scene to help with traffic.

Ryan Weir and Gary Matthews, employees at the dealership, were called to the scene by police.

“These were great used vehicles. Such a waste,” said Weir as he examined the extensive damage, noting that one of the trucks destroyed had less than 25,000 miles on it.

Weir said he finds it odd that three vehicles were destroyed.

“This truck even has some melting on the driver’s side,” said Weir of the fourth vehicle in the row of used cars and trucks on the north side of the lot.

Sparks said fire investigator Eric McNutt will be in charge of the investigation into the cause of the fire and that nothing has been ruled out at this point, including arson.
