The field was cut in half during the first weekend of the 52nd annual Bill Rahm Invitational Bowling Tournament at Suburban Lanes in Bucyrus.

On Saturday, Bryan Patrick edged Rick McWaters, 852-838; Shawn Ridgeway downed Dave Holman, 951-920; Don McLaughlin defeated Vern Vermilion, 929-855; Mitch Long beat Mike Lear, 822-797; Butch Pangallo topped Todd Spurlock, 824-745; Keith Hildreth dropped Nathan Monk, 963-879. Hildreth rolled perfect 300 in Game 2; Joel Butt beat Tim Dye, 830-740; and Curtis Groves rolled a 912 to Dave Conti’s 870.

Two sessions were bowled on Sunday, eliminating eight of the 16 bowlers from the field.

There were two 1000 series in the first session, as Long rolled a 1028 and Hildreth finished with a 1016 total.

Those eliminated in the first session were Spurlock, Dye, Conti and Holman.

Eliminated in the second session were Groves, Pangallo, Ridgeway and Vermilion.

The tournament continues Saturday. The eight remaining bowlers of Don McLaughlin, Mike Lear, Brian Patrick, Keith Hildreth, Nathan Monk, Rick McWaters, Mitch Long and Joel Butt will be pared to two by Sunday.

The finalists will bowl for the championship on February 24 at 1 p.m.
