NEWS RELEASE:

The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education approved a new State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification program, set to begin with the 2018-2019 school year, during their regular meeting Dec. 14.

The program would be offered through collaboration between Bucyrus, Pioneer Career and Technology Center and The Crawford Success Center/North Central State College. This would be a senior-only program with a maximum of ten (10) students in the program each semester, and would serve as a pathway toward students earning a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program through The Crawford Success Center.

“This program is a result of many people and organizations coming together through the assistance of The Crawford Partnership to find new ways to fill a need for in-demand jobs in our county,” said Kevin Kimmel, Bucyrus Superintendent. “The program’s goal is to help lead students through a career pathway toward earning an LPN or Registered Nurse (RN) degree, and we’re excited to be the starting point for students’ journey toward a more prosperous life.”

This is not the first program being offered for students through the Bucyrus and Pioneer partnership. The High School has been offering an engineering satellite program for two years.

Earlier in the meeting, the Board accepted a donation from Sodexo for $2,500 during the meeting. The check was presented to Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke by Food Services General Manager Lorie Pennington as part of the Sodexo Healthy High School Challenge program.

“The Secondary School finished second overall in this national contest,” said Pennington. “The goal of this program is to further the nutrition education of high school students through a national challenge that plays off of their competitive spirit by encouraging them to make healthy food choices in order to earn points for their school.”

All agenda items were approved as presented to the board. The meeting then moved to executive session with no additional action being taken.

The next meeting of the Bucyrus City School District Board of Education will be the annual Organizational Meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. in the Lincoln Administrative Center Wednesday, Jan. 10.
