Multiple Crawford County fire departments responded to a fire on Ohio 98 in Sulphur Springs early Monday morning after a neighbor called in the blaze.
Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Harley said the fire started somewhere in the back of a storage building and fully engulfed the structure. He said, while crews were on scene, the fire spread to a small structure next to the storage building and then into the second story of the Family Corner Second Hand Shop building.
A residence to the south of the fire sustained damage to its house siding.
Harley said the cause of the fire is unknown, but he hopes to know more after an investigation by the state fire marshal.
Along with Liberty Township, fire departments from Jefferson, Whetstone and Holmes townships and the villages of Tiro and New Washington all assisted at the scene.
Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and employees from the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with closing off the state route to traffic.
