NEWS RELEASE:
The Bucyrus community continued to show its compassion for children during the regular meeting of the Bucyrus City School District Board of Education Oct. 26. During the meeting, the Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156, through the Elks National Foundation Grand Lodge, awarded a $2,000 Beacon Grant to the Bucyrus Backpack Program.
“We are very thankful to receive support from the Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156,” said Backpack Program Board of Directors President Lorie Pennington. “This shows our community’s passion for supporting its children and the Elks Lodge #156’s commitment to helping put an end to childhood hunger in Bucyrus.”
This show of support for the Bucyrus City Schools continues a long tradition of involvement in the education of the community’s young people by Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156.
“The Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156 is very proud to be a community partner with the Bucyrus City School District,” said Elks Lodge #156 representative David Smith. “Elks members continue to see the need for this program in our community, and through the Elks National Foundation Community Investments Program the local Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156 will continue to provide financial support to bring good nutrition to our community’s children.”
Currently serving more than 100 families in the district, the Bucyrus Backpack Program is continuing to grow and these funds will help in that effort.
“We cannot thank the Bucyrus Elks Lodge #156 enough for their support of the Bucyrus City School District,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “Community partnerships and investments like this allow us to continue providing quality programs, such as the Backpack Program, to the students that need it the most. We are grateful for every dollar that has been given to support the nutritional well-being of our students.”
The board also recognized Bucyrus Elementary students for their involvement in community activities.
