Colonel Crawford students are using a new database through the Crawford Partnership.
High school principal, Jake Bruner, explained the process to the district’s school board during the regular meeting Monday evening.
“The students input their information, including two career choices,” Bruner said. “They can update it if things change.”
Bruner said area businesses and industries also could sign up for the service and help students line up jobs and job shadowing opportunities through the database.
While students in grades 9 through 11 already have signed up for the service, Bruner will assist the senior class in signing up as part of their senior projects.
“We are the first school to sign up. So far, 235 of our kids are registered,” Bruner said.
Bruner said as students graduate and enroll in college; they can go into the system and update their résumés for future employment.
In other board business, Bernie Kessler, second vice commander of the Bucyrus Sons of the American Legion, Post 181, asked the board for permission to place a chair of honor and American flags on the school grounds in honor of prisoners of war and those missing in action.
“There are about 91,000 POW and MIA’s since WWI and we want to remember them,” Kessler said.
Kessler said the Legion will provide the chair, a cover for it, the flags and cement pad free of charge to the school district.
“We are asking permission to place the chairs at all six schools in the county and Wayside Chapel,” Kessler said.
The board agreed and will be deciding on the location of the chair of honor.
The board passed several routine agenda items along with an estimate of $31,21 for Farnham Equipment to install handrails at the football stadium.
“Their estimate was much lower than all of the others we checked with, so this is a great deal,” Superintendent Todd Martin said. “People have been requesting the handrails for a long time and this will make our stadium much safer.”
