There will be no criminal charges filed in connection with a public disc golf course project in Crestline.

Crestline Police Chief Joe Butler stated in his report that better management was needed on the project, and criminal charges were not warranted. Crestline police, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and county prosecutor Matthew Crall concluded there was no evidence of theft or criminal activity.

Allegations of possible theft and theft by deception arose at a Crestline parks committee meeting in March, and the Crestline police were asked to investigate. According to the report, over $9,000 was donated for the project and given to the village. The report indicated that over $5,800 was spent for disc golf baskets.

According to village legal counsel Jon Burton, proper procedure was not followed when constructing the course for public use. Construction of the course has now been halted. It is unclear if the donations will be returned.
