With Bucyrus’ First Friday event right around the corner, entertainment and events are starting to take form for the monthly summer shopping affair.
The June 2 edition of First Friday will be no different with Bucyrus’ FCBank hosting a 5K run to benefit the Humane Society Serving Crawford County.
Community Office Assistant Manager Rebecca Hord explained how FCBank and the humane society teamed up for the 5K.
“A lot of us have a passion for animals, but also we felt that every time we were contributing for something we were looking at the exact same avenues. We wanted to kind of broaden our horizons and we felt like the humane society was the way to go,” Hord said.
The cost to participate in the race is $15 until May 15, after that the cost will be $20. The first 100 paid registrants will receive a race t-shirt. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. the day of the race with the race itself starting at 6:30 p.m.
While 5Ks happen with regularity in the area, this will be the first time that FCBank has hosted a race.

“We were in a manager’s meeting one week, and one of the managers in our Columbus market was looking into doing a 5K, and we were also excited about that,” Hord said. “Donna Conley and I love fitness and things like that so we thought it would be a great opportunity since our bank is on the square to have a 5K to help kick off the First Friday. We were excited so we’re like let’s try it. We really hope it goes well and people come out.”
The 5K is expected to start at the square and wind through downtown Bucyrus finishing close to the starting point.
Partnering with FCBank First Friday 5K is the Fitness Warehouse. Other sponsors of the event include Nationwide Insurance, Old Crawford Land Title Agency, and Ohio Eye Associates.
