All the local baseball and softball teams have been called to the post after Sunday’s tournament draws and the race for postseason honors begins in earnest next week. For reference, there are no games scheduled at the moment for Saturday, May 6, and all games through the week will begin promptly at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Softball
Colonel Crawford’s Lady Eagles (15-3) were the only team in the area to be granted a top seed. Playing in the Lexington District, Colonel Crawford opted for a bye in the first round and will play at home on Thursday, May 11, against the winner of the Fostoria(9) at Huron(8) game.
Also inactive for the first round in Division III, Wynford(7) will travel to Edison(5) on Friday, May 12.
Bucyrus(10) will travel to Margaretta(2) for a first-round game on Tuesday, May 9. The winner of that game will earn a berth in the second-round bracket opposite Galion(3) on Friday, May 12. If Galion’s opponent that night is Bucyrus, the Lady Tigers get to stay at home. If not, they will travel to Margaretta.
Buckeye Central will actually be the first local team to play a tournament game. The Buckettes(10) will play at Mohawk(4) on Monday, May 8, in the Shelby District with the winner facing the winner of the Plymouth(8) and Western Reserve(9) game on Thursday, May 11. The higher seed for that second-round game will get to play at home.
Crestline was awarded the third seed in Division IV and will sit out the first round. The Lady Bulldogs will also play Thursday, May 11, at home against either Seneca East(5) or Norwalk St. Paul(12).
Baseball
Seneca East got the top seed in the Division III Shelby District in baseball with the Galion Tigers earning a third seed. Neither team will play in the first round of the tournament next week, but could face each other in a district semifinal.
Both, however, will play at home on Friday, May 12. Seneca East will face the winner of the Carey(6) and Margaretta(9) contest, while Galion will square off against Western Reserve(7)
Bucyrus(8) will also be at home for the Redmen’s first game on the tournament trail against Willard(10) on Wednesday, May 10. The winner of that game will travel to Clear Fork(2) on Friday, May 12.
Local Division IV baseball teams will play in the Galion District. Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Wynford and Buckeye Central were seeded 5, 6, 7 and 8 in that order in the 13-team district. New London got the top seed in the district and Norwalk St. Paul was seeded second.
All four Crawford County teams will play on Tuesday, May 9, with the winners advancing to the second round on Thursday, May 11.
Crestline(6) will host Wynford(7) with the winner either traveling to Ridgemont(4) or hosting Mansfield Christian(13).
Colonel Crawford(5) will host Lucas(12) with that winner moving on and playing at Plymouth(3).
Buckeye Central(8) will open at home against Monroeville(10). The survivor heads north to Norwalk St. Paul(2).
