A beautiful morning to go fishing was literally turned upside down on Thursday for 87-year-old Lawrence Ash of Bucyrus. Ash was headed out to go fishing and instead ended up at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

Bucyrus police said Ash was traveling north in the 100 block of South Lane Street when his Chrysler Town and County van inexplicably went up and over the curb, hit a tree in front of the St. John’s United Church of Christ and then rolled over onto its top back out in the roadway.

Ash’s fishing tackle could be seen scattered over the accident scene.

Police had not yet talked to Ash who was taken to the Bucyrus Community Hospital by Life Support ambulance with what police described as non-life threatening injuries. They said Ash did not lose consciousness.

The call reporting the accident came into the police station at 8:36 a.m. Also responding to the accident was the Bucyrus Fire Department. Hensley Towing took the vehicle from the scene.

No citations were immediately issued; however, the accident was still under investigation.
