The Wynford baseball team went on the road Wednesday evening, but the bus ride home was a pleasant one for the Royals. Wynford clipped their hosts at Ridgedale, 3-1, in an N10 contest.

The Royals are now 2-0 in league play just a half game out of first, and 2-3 overall. Ridgedale is 0-3 and 0-4.

Wyatt Smith went all seven innings for Wynford and was dominant with 13 strikeouts against six walks. He allowed just two hits and kept the Rockets off the scoreboard until the seventh inning.

Derek Lust struck out seven and walked four for the Rockets.

The Royals pushed across single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to pick up the win. Stone had a huge night for Wynford with a double and home run, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored. Blake Williamson, Thad Hensel and Brandon Shutler all hit safely for Wynford.

In other area baseball games on Wednesday Mohawk topped Colonel Crawford by the final of 9-7; Upper Sandusky outscored Carey 11-9; Seneca East stayed in first place with a 13-5 win over Bucyrus Central; and in non-conference action Bucyrus bettered Crestline 7-5.

On the softball diamond Colonel Crawford battered Mohawk 20-2 to stay unbeaten and a half game out of the top spot in the league; Carey edged Upper Sandusky 7-6; Seneca East remained undefeated and in first place with a 4-3 win over Buckeye Central; and Crestline got the better of Bucyrus, 6-1, in a non-conference tilt.
