Lake traffic is a boon for cities like Bucyrus, but it sometimes turns into a gridlock nightmare, which United Bank is hoping to alleviate.

Though Tim Hortons Café and Bake Shop has been fairly busy since its opening November, its northern neighbor, United Bank, expects things to pick up even more when summer rolls around. That can cause problems if the southbound traffic fails to keep United Bank’s Sandusky Avenue driveway open for customers.

A representative of the bank requested a Do Not Block Entrance sign erected at that drive during Friday’s Bucyrus City Traffic Commission. Police Chief David Koepke noted that blocking drives was already prohibited, but agreed it would only help the flow of traffic for United Bank.

The Traffic Commission voted in favor of posting a Do Not Block Entrance sign for United Bank.

The board continued its talk on signs for pedestrian crossing. Though the exact type of sign is still undecided, Mayor Jeff Reser noted that money is available to purchase them. The Traffic Commission hashed out six pedestrian crosswalk places where the signs could be installed: East and West Mansfield Street on Washington Square, the east side of the county courthouse, Lane Street at the soccer fields, Norton Way at Crawford County Job and Family Services, and River Street at North Sandusky Avenue.
