The Buckeye Central Buckettes made a big splash in their first game of the 2017 high school basketball tournament Saturday night as they pummeled the Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic Lady Panthers 82-35.

The Buckettes got out to a fast start as they jumped out to a 26-9 first quarter lead behind Jenna Karl’s 12 points. Karl would total 19 points in the first half while teammate Haley Green added 10 more points to take the Buckettes into the half with a 51-13 lead.

Slowing down slightly out of halftime, the Buckettes outscored the Lady Panthers 19-6 to take a 70-19 lead into the third quarter. Resting many of their starters in the fourth, the Buckettes were outscored by the Panthers 16-12 to close out the game.

Karl would lead all scorers with a 24-point, 9-rebound, and 6-assist performance. Izzy Biglin would add 13 points, and Green and Courtney Pifher would each contribute 11 points to the Buckettes’ dominance.

With the win the Buckettes improve to 19-4 on the season and will take on the winner of the Danbury/Tiffin Calvert game in the Girls Division IV District semi-finals at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 2.
