A cigarette run may have gotten three people into some serious trouble.
Indigo McIntyre, Elijah McNeil, and Laki Johnson appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Monday morning for arraignment hearings. The trio was charged with possessing cigarettes not bearing stamps and trafficking in cigarettes with the intent to avoid payment of taxes, both fourth-degree felonies.
The incident occurred on Feb. 3 as the trio allegedly traveled from Indiana to New York, though assistant prosecutor Ryan Hoovler noted changing stories coming from the defendants. McIntyre was allegedly the driver of the vehicle and traveled over 100 miles per hour on a donut tire. There was allegedly 110 cartons of cigarettes in the car, which would amount to over $5,000 in avoided taxes.
With no ties to the local community, Judge Sean Leuthold set bond at $100,000 for Johnson and McNeil due to their prior convictions in other states, and $50,000 for McIntyre.
Joshua Prosser of Crestline received the highest bond on the day after being arraigned on first-degree aggravated burglary and fifth-degree drug possession. Leuthold set bond at $500,000 and appointed Jim Mayer III as Prosser’s attorney.
Prosser allegedly committed a home invasion for money on Nov. 16, 2016 at a Patterson Street home in Crestline. He was later picked up by U.S. Marshals.
Prosser could face up to 12 years in prison if sentenced to maximum consecutive sentences.
