The Young Riders 4H club kicked off their second meeting of the year with the introduction of new members who were not present at the first meeting. Each person was to state his or her name, age, school, and his or her horse’s name.
Roll call was taken by members announcing their horse’s name. These names ranged from common names like Sammy, Sophie, and Maggie, to more unique names like Ariat, Pepsi, and Kiwi.
The meeting continued with the discussion of sponsorships, fundraisers, and demonstrations. Thank you cards were filled out for last year’s sponsors. The club is very grateful for all the sponsors and donations received last year.
Club members have an assignment to bring back fundraiser ideas to the next meeting. Members will be also required to give a demonstration or speech to the club on a horse-related topic of their choice.
After the meeting was adjourned, demonstrations were done by Emma Studer on Cleaning Tack; Kennedy Dyer on How to Properly Wrap Polo Wraps; and Sara Misura on Muscle Atrophy in Horses.
President of the club, Emma Studer, a senior at Wynford High School, in her ninth year as a 4H member showing rabbits, poultry, and horses, explained the importance of these demonstrations. According to Studer, “They’re important because some of the littler members that are first and second years, they might have questions but then they don’t ask them because they’re too afraid… like my demonstration, Cleaning Tack, everybody needs to know how to do it for fair and to show… so it’s very important to me because then I can relay the message and then if they have questions then they’re more apt to come up to me, ‘cuz I did my demonstration on that[topic].”
