A family is safe thanks to their fire detector.
An electrical fire started in the early morning hours Friday in the basement of an Emerson Street home in Bucyrus. According to Lt. John Schiefer, the family was home at the time the fire started, but their fire detector alerted them to the fire. No injuries were reported.
Schiefer said the fire department was able to knock the fire out quickly. Damage included $18,000 to the property and $8,000 to the contents.
