Families looking for a fun way to spend Friday evening looked to the Bucyrus YMCA as the organization held its first Family Fun Day.
Starting at 6 p.m. and running until 8 p.m., the Family Fun Day featured obstacle courses, beach volleyball, tug-of-war, and a performance by the Americettes, among numerous activities. Organizing the event was Stephanie Faulkner. Faulkner explained the reason why the YMCA put on the Family Fun Day.
“We are under new management, new CEO, new Director, and we decided we wanted to open it to the community to let them know, ‘Hey, we are changing some things, and changing it for the better. We have got new paint and a new parking lot. Come out and see it and join the Y’,” Faulkner said.
Attending the event were brother and sister Drew and Jenna Ashley along with their parents Michelle and Curtis.
“I am in baton so I had to come out,” Jenna said.
While they did come for Jenna’s baton performance with the Americettes, they still enjoyed themselves at the Family Fun Day.
“I liked the obstacle course where we got to dive under the tubes because I had a lot of fun,” Drew said.
“I liked the same one,” Jenna added.
Looking for something to do while having the week off of work, Bobby Deskins took his sons Deven, Paten and Jaden to the Family Fun Day. Deven and Paten explained what their favorite part of the day had been.
“We wanted to play games,” Deven said. “Cornhole was my favorite.”
“We were playing in the gym then we came out and played some of the games,” Paten added.
Friends Emily Adams and Ava Wade were competing against one another in one of the obstacle courses. Both Adams and Wade explained what brought them out to the event.
“I’m in Americettes, and I twirl, and I figured I would do something fun afterwards,” Adams said.
“I came with my friend,” Wade added. “I enjoyed the obstacle course the most.”
For those who missed out on the Bucyrus YMCA’s Family Fun Day there will be another Family Fun Day held at the Bucyrus Y from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 6.
