Looking to expand their services at the Bucyrus Avita Health Systems site, representatives from Avita spoke to Bucyrus City Council Tuesday night about their plans.
Jerry Morasko and Mari Swearingen of Avita unfurled plans to council that would see an 8,000 square foot facility that would house their sports health, orthopedic, and therapeutic services constructed by the hospital. Currently those are housed at the Bucyrus Avita Therapy and Sports Medicine building at 959 Hopely Ave.
With construction of the facility, Swearingen noted that Avita is looking to add some jobs at the facility with three physicians, and five to six salaried positions.
The project, which is about a year away from becoming a reality, is being funded by a rural community grant from the USDA.
Captain Annie Buckles of the Bucyrus Area Salvation Army spoke before council giving an update on the organization’s work within the community.
Buckles noted that while a lot of attention of the organization’s efforts are being paid toward adults and younger children, not enough attention is being paid toward teenagers, and that she would like to put more focus on area teens in need.
Bucyrus City Council passed an ordinance that will appropriate $20,000 from unappropriated Sewage Disposal Funds to Contractual Services for the replacement of the water treatment plant’s roof.
The ordinance was passed without a dissenting vote, and approved to suspend the rules being passed by emergency status.
Lt. Jon Dorsey spoke before council about the upcoming National Night Out. Lt. Dorsey reported that the National Night Out is a way for police, fire, and city officials to strengthen relationships with communities within the city. Dorsey added that National Night Out block party permission slips along with parade requests for the event are due to the Bucyrus Police Department by July 22.
As a result of National Night Out taking place on Tuesday, August 2, the Bucyrus City Council approved moving their regularly scheduled meeting to Monday, August 1.
