It was not a good day for the Bucyrus City Water Department.

After issuing a boil advisory for residents on South East Street and Nora Street late Thursday afternoon, city workers then had to deal with an even bigger issue at Washington Square.

According to Service/Safety Director Jeff Wagner, a 12-inch water main blew out on the eastbound side of West Mansfield Street, caving in and humping the road. Crews from the Water Department put up barricades on that side of the street from Poplar Street up to where West Mansfield intersects with Sandusky Avenue. The street was still open to westbound traffic.

Crews were expected to work into the night, though that will wait until the Ohio Utilities Protection Services can come in to provide marking for electrical lines.
