The Bucyrus United Methodist Church is proud to host the Rev. Christopher G. Marshall, a United Methodist District Superintendent from the West African country of Liberia, Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19.
The community is invited to hear Rev. Marshall speak at 8 a.m. Saturday at the church’s Outreach Center, 216 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus, and during worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 19 at the church’s Worship Center, 227 S. Walnut St., Bucyrus.
As superintendent of the St. Paul District of Liberia in the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Marshall serves the sister church of Bucyrus UMC, St. John United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Liberia. He is a key player in the Farmer-to-Farmer program, a mission supported by the Bucyrus UMC, and assists with the United Methodist East Ohio Conference’s 3Cs Mission Project — Churches, Clinics and Classrooms.
In 2014, a team of volunteers, including two from Bucyrus, traveled to Harrisburg, Liberia to help the community rebuild after the war. They followed a 20-foot container full of farm equipment, tools, seeds and more, donated by United Methodist churches. The team included Crawford County residents Nathan Brause and Sharon Hahn, from Bucyrus UMC. Sharon, an interior designer, supervised the installation of pews in the St. John’s church, which were donated by Bucyrus UMC. Nathan Brause, a corn and wheat farmer, trained Liberian farmers how to operate and maintain a tractor donated by the East Ohio conference, and worked with them to discover new ways of planting crops using small planters.
Bucyrus UMC is led by Pastor Mike Corwin and Rev. Becky Smithey. Sunday worship services are at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and The Touch at 5 p.m. at the Worship Center, 227 S. Walnut, Bucyrus. Offices are located at the Administration & Outreach Center, 216 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus. Both buildings are handicapped accessible and air-conditioned.
