The village of Crestline’s Finance Committee met Tuesday night with a representative from Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office to discuss their recent fiscal analysis.
It was found that the village did not meet criteria to enter into either a state of fiscal emergency or a state of fiscal watch. However, the village will allow a financial forecast by the office, which is slated to start sometime in July. This particular forecast will focus on the general fund, and where the fund is expected to be by the end of the year.
Depending on the results, the village will either be in the clear or possibly under a fiscal watch. They can choose to project out another year for 2017 if needed.
The committee considered the findings and discussed ways to avoid falling under fiscal watch. Measures which could be taken include closely monitoring finances, ending superfluous accounts, using funds conservatively, and keeping a close eye on employee overtime.
The Auditor’s office offers a financial software package called the Uniform Accounting Network (UAN), a program which works best for governments on a smaller scale, such as villages and townships. The committee will research the potential use of UAN into the next meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 20th.
