While Mother Nature may have tried grounding the Aviation Day at Galion’s Municipal Airport on Saturday, some events out of the day were still able to take flight.

Originally scheduled to last from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Aviation Day’s activities were dialed back some with a few of the activities scrapped. The day wasn’t a complete washout, John Bowen explains a few of the events that were still able to take place.

“We had some remote control model airplanes, we had tower people from Mansfield people here talk about the jobs in the FAA, we had Hi-Stat Technologies demonstrate their drones, and we had Galion Air, which is based out of this airport, talk about their airplane club,” Bowen said.

“Our goal is to get people interested in aviation, and one good effect we had a Boy Scout troop come through, and we talked with them about aviation, and they were able to get their aviation badge as a result,” Bowen continued.

Aviation Day (1)Another highlight of the Galion Aviation Day also featured a model Fokker World War I fighter plane on display in the hanger which included sound effects that the plane would produce if flying on a mission.

Those that missed out on Galion’s Aviation Day still have a chance to view aircraft in the area with the 2016 Mansfield Lahm Airport Day taking place on July 2. For more information on the event visit www.MansfieldAirportDay.com
