The winning bid to construct a wall to help progress development of the Schines Art Park was announced Wednesday at the Bucyrus City Board of Control meeting. That contract went to New Washington’s Studer-Obringer, Inc. with a bid of $120,900. Mayor Jeff Reser accepted the bid with stipulations.
The wall would be built in two stages, with separate initial costs for each stage. There is the cost of erecting the wall, and then a stucco finish would be applied to seal the wall. The amount would be the same for the new contract, although the total cost would be broken down by those stages. Stage two- the stucco finish- still needs an additional $25,000 in funds to complete costs. The finish will have to cure before proceeding to the decoration stage.
Reser said the stucco finish will be a “high-grade, durable, tough finish” that he expects to last for years. His office is looking into possibly decorating the wall with artistic designs, and has been in contact with artist Eric Grohe, but has no plans for a mural.
As for a proposed timeline, Reser expects construction to start in June, with the wall itself up by August at least.
Those looking to donate to help raise the additional $25,000 for the stucco finish can contact The Community Foundation for Crawford County Under Project, Inc.
