The City of Bucyrus Board of Control awarded five farm land bids Monday morning.

The winning bid for farm land at the Port Bucyrus airport, totaling 87.5 acres, went to Richard Langer. Though Langer’s bid came in at $17,625 per year, the Board of Control will offer him the lease at $17,600, a bid that became invalid after the original submitter failed to follow the submission terms.

Charles Brinkman won leasing bids for 27.38 acres at the Outhwaite Reservoir – 16.4 acres less than previous years due to the new water treatment plant – and another seven acres in the northeast corner of the same reservoir. Brinkman won the leases with bids of $4,107 and $1,120, respectively, per year.

Seven acres at the southwest side of the wastewater treatment plant will be leased to Richard Smith for $560 per year.

Acreage at the former Shrine Park along Krauter Road in Bucyrus Township, totaling 5.7 acres, will be awarded to Jerry Rindfuss for $450 per year.

The three-year leases will be in effect for the growing seasons between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2019.

As Service\Safety Director Jeff Wagner noted at a previous Public Lands and Buildings Committee meeting, the bids were less than what was submitted in 2012 due to lower crop values.
