MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A 31-year-old Mansfield woman has received a sentence of two and a half years of probation following the death of her five-year-old son, who passed away after being left in a hot vehicle in June 2025.
Kiarra Brock appeared in Richland County Court on Wednesday, where Judge Brent Robinson handed down the sentence. The ruling followed Brock’s guilty plea last month to charges of reckless homicide and child endangerment, both of which are third-degree felonies.
The incident occurred on Wood Street, where Mansfield Police reported that the child was left unattended in a vehicle for several hours while Brock was at work. An autopsy later determined that the boy died from hyperthermia, a condition caused by an abnormally elevated body temperature.
Brock had initially faced more severe legal consequences following a grand jury indictment in February, which included a first-degree felony charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Under the terms of the plea agreement reached last month, those charges were resolved through her plea to the lesser counts.
