A Wyandot County teenager was declared deceased at the scene of an accident Wednesday evening. Sixteen-year-old Duane Jacob Davidson died when the car he was operating was hit by a semi-truck and trailer at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Wyandot Township Highway 44 in Salem Township.

The rural Wyandot County youth is the son of Bucyrus native and businesswoman Barbara Ley Davidson and a junior at Upper Sandusky High School.

According to the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office who investigated the accident, Davidson was traveling east on township Highway 44 shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday when his vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Venture, failed to yield at the intersection of U.S. 23. Davidson’s vehicle was struck by a semi-truck and trailer operated by 24-year-old Sergii Bali of Xenia that was northbound on U.S. 23.

After the impact both vehicles went off the right side of the roadway approximately 200 feet and came to rest in a field.

Bali was not injured in the crash. Davidson was declared deceased at the scene by Wyandot County Coroner Dr. Joseph Sberna. Funeral arrangements are pending at Lucas Batton Funeral Home.
