BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 181 has announced it is now accepting applications for the 2026 Veterans Banner program, a local initiative that honors area heroes with decorative street banners.
As the new year begins, organizers are calling for both new applications and renewals to ensure local veterans are recognized throughout the city’s streets. However, officials noted that space for the tributes has become increasingly limited.
Applications will be catalogued on a first-come, first-served basis. Banners will be installed in the order they are received until all usable utility poles are occupied. While the SAL plans to expand the display area as much as possible, the organization stated that if they run out of acceptable poles, all monies will be returned to applicants for whom space could not be found.
Interested residents can pick up applications starting after Jan. 1 at the American Legion Post 181 canteen, located at 123 E. Rensselaer St. in Bucyrus. The final deadline to submit a completed application is March 15, though organizers urge the community to submit theirs as soon as possible due to the limited availability of space.
