UPDATE: Ontario Police are now reporting that the individual involved in the road rage incident has died from their injuries.

ONTARIO, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A road rage incident that escalated to gunfire on Sunday evening has resulted in one individual being hospitalized in critical condition and a suspect taken into custody by local authorities.

Preliminary investigations reveal that an Ontario police officer on patrol encountered the ongoing altercation and acted swiftly to intervene.

Law enforcement has since secured the area, cordoning off Lexington-Springmill Road between Bedford Boulevard and the eastbound entrance to U.S. Route 30 to facilitate the investigation.

The victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident, was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene without further incident.
