What is becoming an annual local tradition is taking place again this Saturday, Dec. 19, this time featuring both past favorites and new events.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the fifteen rooms of the landmark Gill House at the corner of Gill Avenue and Harding Way West will welcome visitors to the Annual Christmas Open House. Included during that time:
- The first and second floors of the Gill House will be available for tours at no charge.
- Music will fill the halls with carolers at 1 p.m., and a brass choir at 2 p.m., and holiday goodies will be available for eating.
- The newly-painted Parlor, the first of the Gill House rooms to be re-painted in its original colors, will be open for visitors.
- New details of the house’s history learned during 2015 will be shared.
- For only the second time — and the very first time since heat has returned to the house — the Gill Family home movies will be shown. In addition to images of many familiar Galion faces, particularly those of the Gill Family, several scenes of 1930s and 1940s Galion will appear — including a view of the Galion Tiger Marching Band marching through Public Square; the then-new community swimming pool; and images of skaters on the old iced-over pond in Heise Park.
There is no charge for this event; however, donations will be gladly accepted and will go toward the Gill House rescue and renovation effort.
Preserving Galion, Inc. is also pleased to share that for the first time, memberships will be available in what it is calling the “Friends of the Gill House.” Memberships, available for just $10 per person, entitle a member to all publications, a free guided house tour, and a limited edition membership card featuring images of the Gill House itself.
Memberships will be available at the event, and can also be obtained by sending a message on the Gill House Facebook page or via mail at: PO Box 124, Galion, Ohio 44833.
