COLUMBUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Members of the Civil Air Patrol from Galion City Schools were recognized this week at the Ohio State Superintendents Conference in Columbus, standing as examples of youth leadership, integrity, and service in action.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) program, a new initiative at Galion City Schools for students in grades 6–12, is already making a powerful impact, drawing steady enrollment since its introduction. Cadets were honored during the statewide event, where they shared reflections on how the program has shaped their lives.

Cadets spoke about the core values instilled by CAP—integrity, volunteer service, excellence, and respect—and how these principles have bolstered their confidence, leadership skills, and sense of belonging.

Beyond personal growth, the students highlighted a positive culture shift within their school, noting a stronger sense of pride, purpose, and unity—qualities that reflect Galion’s “Courage to Climb” philosophy, which emphasizes resilience and continuous improvement.

“Each of these Cadets represents the best of what happens when students are given opportunities to lead, serve, and grow,” said Dr. Jeffrey Hartmann, Superintendent of Galion City Schools. “Their courage to climb—facing challenges with perseverance and purpose—reflects the spirit of our district and our partnership with the Civil Air Patrol.”

Galion City Schools remains committed to expanding the program, which provides students with unique opportunities to build leadership and character, preparing them for success in school, service, and life.
