COLUMBUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced the launch of a free, state-supported mobile app designed to provide practicing drivers with real-time feedback and log their mandatory supervised driving hours.

The new “RoadReady Ohio” app was developed by the DPS’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) and app developer J.F. Griffin. Ohio is the first state to integrate advanced telematics features into the app, which analyze a driver’s actions and offer instant tips for improvement.

The primary function of the app is to help drivers with learner’s permits and their parents or guardians accurately log the required 50 hours of supervised driving time before the final driver’s license test.

“By combining innovative technology with proven safety practices, this app turns a smartphone into a trusted partner for new drivers and their families,” Governor DeWine said. “I am proud of the work Ohio is doing to help our newest drivers become our safest drivers.”

Technology for Safer Practice

The app scores each practice session in key areas, including braking, acceleration, turning, and speed. This detailed analysis provides recommendations on how a new driver can improve their skills during their next practice drive.

Once a driver completes all 50 mandated practice hours, the app can sync with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) database. This connection allows the app to generate the required affidavit and driving log, officially attesting that the practice took place.

The launch of the “RoadReady Ohio” app coincides with a new state law going into effect that requires all Ohioans under the age of 21 to complete a full driver’s education course and 50 hours of supervised practice.

“This new tool is turning that practice time into life-saving experience,” said DPS Director Andy Wilson. “The goal is simple: to give every new driver the skills and confidence they need to stay safe, not just during their first year on the road, but for every mile they drive.”

The “RoadReady Ohio” app is available for free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
