BUCYRUS — The Pleasant Lady Spartans used two first place finishes and one third place to win the 2025 Sam Sabback Invitational tennis tournament at Bucyrus High School.

In third doubles, the Spartans team of Peyton and Patel edged second place Clear Fork’s Wilson and Bowman, 8-6. Wright and Perez slid by Zornes and McCoy of Bucyrus, 8-5.

Pleasant scored its final two points in first doubles with a third-place finish, as Aurigemma and Patterson slipped past Collins and Caudill of Upper Sandusky, 8-7.

“Congratulations to Pleasant on their team win,” Bucyrus coach Kris Knodell said. “The Lady Red got a second-place finish from the fourth doubles team of Adalyn Zornes and Lady Faye McCoy and a 4th place finish from our third doubles team of Mya Rothhaar and Addie Weber.”

Upper Sandusky finished in a tie for third with Shelby. Gottfried and North fell to Friend and Bednarz of Ontario, 8-1, in the championship for second place in second doubles.

The Rams took third place in third doubles. Ritchey and Wagner defeated Bucyrus’ Rothhaar and Weber, 8-1. Collins and Caudill finished fourth in first doubles.

It was another great day of honoring Sam Sabback,” Knodell said of the tournament’s namesake. “The wind may have blown a little, but the sun was shining, and the competition was good.”

Galion grabbed third place in second doubles as Franks and Blue overmatched Cline and Johnson of Clear Fork, 8-1.

“A lot of work goes into making this run smoothly, and I want to give credit to our tennis parents, as well as Josh Statton, (athletic director) Matt Makeever, Ella Moyer and most importantly my wife, Shelley. She and Ella ran a successful invitational,” Knodell said.
