WQEL’s Davey Jones spent Wednesday morning, Veterans Day, at the same place doing the same thing he had done for the previous 44. This time, however, there was an exception.
Jones, perhaps best known for hosting WQEL’s popular Friday Night Phoneboard call-in show, religiously does a live broadcast from American Legion Colonel Crawford Post 181 in
Bucyrus during its annual Veterans Day Breakfast. This year, Jones was given the American Legion’s Red, White and Blue Award for his continuous service in broadcasting the Veterans Day event.
While WBCO/WQEL has now broadcast from the breakfast for 53 years,
Jones has done it for 45 of those years. Jones’ passion and appreciation for armed services veterans is well-known. He also broadcasts the American Legion’s Past Commanders’ Banquet every year and earlier this week spoke at a Veterans Day Assembly at Bucyrus High School.
