MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Richland County’s primary election on Tuesday saw a voter turnout of 9.56%, with 7,740 ballots cast out of 81,001 registered voters, according to unofficial results. All 83 precincts have been reported.

Mansfield City Council Race

In the Democratic primary for the 1st Ward City Council seat, Amber Thompson led with 127 votes, compared to Amy Rainey’s 117 votes.

The Republican primary for the 1st Ward City Council seat was won by Michael Miranda with 387 votes. Lori A. Cope received 249 votes.

Ontario Races

The Republican primary for Mayor of Ontario was won by Josh Bradley, who received 399 votes. Kris Knapp garnered 256 votes, and Troy L. Sapp received 86 votes.

Edward J. Gallo won the Republican primary for President of Council with 576 votes. Shannon M. Lorentz Wiese won the Republican primary for Treasurer with 551 votes. Andrew J. Medwid won the Republican primary for Director of Law with 509 votes. No candidate filed for the Republican primary for Auditor. In the Republican primary for Member of Council at Large, Kyle M. Webb received 498 votes, and AJ Roll received 51 write-in votes.

County Issues

A state constitutional amendment regarding public infrastructure passed in Richland County, with 4,472 votes for and 2,521 votes against.

In the City of Mansfield, a charter amendment to renew a 0.25% income tax for four years for street and park road improvements passed, with 1,672 votes for and 849 against. A separate income tax renewal for the city’s P.R.I.D.E. program also passed, with 1,567 votes for and 930 votes against.

Voters in the Village of Crestline rejected an additional property tax for safety services, with one vote for and zero votes against. An advisory measure on a cannabis dispensary in Crestline was also rejected.

In the Village of Plymouth, a renewal of a property tax for the cemetery passed, while an additional property tax for police failed.

Madison Township voters rejected a replacement property tax for fire services. Mifflin Township voters approved a renewal of a property tax for current expenses. A property tax renewal for fire services failed in Weller Township.

A Galion City Schools property tax failed. An income tax and bond issue for LPEVSD also failed. Lucas Local Schools voters approved a property tax renewal. A property tax renewal for the Marvin Memorial Library failed.

A local option for Sunday sales at Matt’s Mart in Mansfield failed, with 109 votes for and 112 against. A similar option for Danop Ltd in Mansfield passed. A local option for Sunday sales at Buckeye Billiards in Mansfield also failed.
