Edit: Spooktacular will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Oct. 24 at Aumiller Park.

Spooktacular in Bucyrus may have a new location this year, but the goal is still the same: a safe way for kids to celebrate Halloween.

Sponsored by the Bucyrus IAFF, Bucyrus AFSCME and Bucyrus FOP/OLC, the event is now known as the 2015 Linda Friend Memorial Spooktacular in honor and memory of the late Bucyrus city employee who reveled in doing things for the community’s children.

Friend was president of the Local AFSCME 1728 and organized the very first Halloween Spooktacular as well as the Aumiller Easter Egg Hunt, and Bucyrus Mardi Gras.

“Linda Friend was the original organizer for Spooktacular,” said Captain Gordan Grove of the Bucyrus Fire Department. “She basically would grab us all by the ear and make sure we got things done.”

This year’s event is even bigger and better than ever which is why it has been moved to Aumiller Park this evening. Beginning at 5 and lasting until 8, Spooktacular will have several new and exciting facets beginning with a Whiffle ball tournament at noon.

In addition to candy, candy and more candy for the kids, there will be a costume contest, Corn Hole tournament, Zombie-themed events, pumpkin-decorating contests and more including hayrides around the park and a straw maze.

There will also be a bike raffle and hot dogs and drinks. Transportation to the park will be provided from several locations around town.

In the event of inclement weather, Oct. 31 is the rain date.
