BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Wombat Solar announced Wednesday the recipients of its first community grants of 2025, which focus on preserving the legacy and heritage of Crawford County, from agriculture to the arts.

Thirteen organizations received funding, with the Crawford Agricultural Society receiving the largest grant of $4,000. The society will use the funds to update fair facilities and prepare for Junior Fair Awards.

The grants will also support upcoming summer events, including a major guest performance at the Bratwurst Festival and Guard Care, a free community health clinic organized by Crawford County Public Health and the Ohio National Guard.

“GuardCare is an amazing partnership between the Ohio National Guard, the Ohio Department of Health, Crawford County Public Health and community sponsorships to provide a wide variety of health services at no cost (dental exams, lab work, mammograms, etc), regardless of income,” said Kate Siefert, Health Commissioner with Crawford Public Health. “This event would not be possible without local contributions, like Wombat Solar’s grant, to cover the cost of the medical supplies and needed supports for the National Guard medical teams that will be providing these services.”

Other first-time recipients include Bucyrus Little Theatre, Galion Girls Summer Softball, and New Washington Youth Baseball.

“We are very appreciative of Wombat’s support of the performing arts,” said Cindy Light with the Bucyrus Little Theatre. “We are so happy to have a new digital screen. This will be a really cool thing for our community.” The theater’s upcoming production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live” in June will be the first to utilize the new technology.

Repeat recipients of the Wombat Solar Community Grant include The Salvation Army, Jefferson Township Fire Department, Wynford Local Schools, Freedom Fellowship Food Pantry, Crawford County Arts Council, Life First Ambulance District, and Crawford County Society for Aiding the Physically Disabled.

The Wombat Solar Community Grant Program provides financial assistance to local nonprofits to support their operations and initiatives that enhance the community’s well-being.

“This quarter’s overwhelming number of applications reminded us just how much great work is happening, and still needed, throughout Crawford County,” said Leah Cordy, Director of Community Relations at Wombat Solar. “We’re proud to support a record number of organizations this round, and even more motivated to keep showing up for this community. As we look ahead, we remain deeply committed to being a long-term partner in driving meaningful change across Crawford County.”

Applications for the Q2 Wombat Solar Community Grant Program are currently being accepted. Nonprofits and charitable organizations operating in Crawford County can apply for up to $5,000 in funding for specific projects or operating expenses. The application deadline is June 15, 2025.
