Three GOAL Digital Academy staff members, Principal and Director of Curriculum Dionna Randas, Director of Special Education Steph Bowers, and English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher Kelly Watson, presented four sessions:

  • Reading Interventions for the Virtual Student: Focused on identifying and providing targeted reading interventions in a virtual setting.
  • Navigating the Science of Reading in the Virtual ELA Classroom: Explored research-based tools for high-quality virtual literacy instruction.
  • Adjusting the GPS: Developing a Virtual Multi-tiered system of supports: Discussed essential components of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) in virtual learning.
  • The Good the Bad and the Outright Ugly: Supporting the Struggling Reader Virtually: An interactive session for educators to share insights and challenges.

“Having the opportunity to present at DLAC, not just once, but four times, was an incredible experience,” said Steph Bowers, Director of Special Education. “I was extremely proud to be part of the team and to share valuable insights on virtual learning with fellow educators. Each session had a full room of engaged participants eager to learn and exchange ideas. GOAL’s approach to online learning is truly unique, and we look forward to continuing to share our practices and learn from others in the field.”

In addition to presenting, GOAL staff participated in workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, bringing back strategies for:

  • Creating engaging virtual content.
  • Implementing collaboration protocols.
  • Utilizing AI in education.
  • Bringing STEAM events to virtual students.
  • Implementing trauma-informed care practices.
  • Establishing an “Ohio State Meetup” group.

GOAL Digital Academy aims to apply these new insights to enhance student learning and engagement.
