BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Takayiah Wright, a 27-year-old resident of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday. The plea comes after she was initially charged with drug possession and child endangering following a tragic incident involving the death of her infant.
Wright’s legal troubles began when police responded to a 911 call reporting that a baby was unresponsive. Emergency responders from the Bucyrus Fire Department, Bucyrus Police Department, and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene in the 1000 block of Bucyrus Street to find the infant dead.
During questioning, Wright appeared visibly distressed and recounted that she had woken up between 4 and 6 a.m. to feed her baby, adhering to what she described as the child’s normal schedule. She stated that she later laid down between 9 and 10 a.m., placing the baby in a jumper next to her bed. However, in a subsequent interrogation, Wright indicated that the infant was actually lying beside her in the bed at the time.
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold accepted Wright’s guilty plea and imposed the maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
